Wedding planning IS exciting…but it also comes with LOTS and LOTS of questions and stress.

If you want some handholding along the way, you’re in the right spot!

This Hudson Valley Bride podcast has been brewing in my mind since before COVID…even though I didn’t know then how “working in the bridal industry” would appear in my life.

Funny how things happen when you put thoughts out into the universe!

In this episode, I share how this idea was born and my vision for this wedding planning podcast. So far I’ve had many compliments from each of my guests, so I think I’m on the right track!

Wedding Planning Tips from a Mother of the Bride

For those of you who are eager to jump right in to wedding planning, here are some logical first steps that I will advise my own daughters to take when they get engaged:

  1. Talk about a vision for your wedding with your partner. Consider your vision a roadmap to your perfect day. A vision allows you to cut down on research because you’ll know exactly which type of vendors to focus on instead of talking to vendors who don’t fit your vision. Download your copy of the Vision Workbook here.
  2. Talk about a budget. There’s no way around it…weddings are expensive! This is the time to chat with your partner and family members about who is able to pay for what. Way back when, it was the bride’s parents who paid for the wedding and the groom’s parents paid for the rehearsal dinner. But with couples getting married later and already being established in careers and with homes, many times it’s the couple themselves who pay for everything. Sorting this all out is EXACTLY why you need to have a chat.
  3. Start shopping for venues. Venues are often the first thing to get booked at least 12-18 months in advance. You’ll need to have an estimate of the guest list size and whether you want an all-inclusive venue (which supplies absolutely everything) or if you want to rent a space and contract your own vendors. There are certainly benefits to both which I’ll highlight in an upcoming article.

Thank you for listening!
