![]() For most bridal couples, their wedding day goes by all too quickly in a blur of activity. The wedding album and, if the bride and groom choose to have one, wedding video become their only way of remembering and reliving the cherished memories of this most special of days. When you stop to consider how important wedding photography is to the entire wedding experience it shouldn't surprise you how much time, planning, and how much of the budget is involved. Prices in this area range from $500 to $2500+ for photography, and from $250 to $1000 for videography, depending on how many photographs and how much coverage you desire and the experience and reputation of your photographer/videographer. Naturally, a more experienced person will cost more. Begin by visiting professional photographers and videographers. By both asking and answering questions they will be able to help you narrow your choices and offer advice and suggestions. Ask family and recently married friends for advice. As with all wedding professionals, always ask for references. Be sure to see samples of the photographer who will actually be photographing your wedding. An experienced photographer generally has backup equipment and can assure that you will get the photographs you want. The Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and Professional Wedding Photographers of America (PWPA) are two organizations that wedding photographers can belong to. Membership usually indicates that they have a greater degree of training and expertise. As is the case with all wedding professionals, it is imperative that you develop a good working relationship with your photographer ahead of time. Be sure to notify him or her if there are any special shots or memories you wish to have captured on film. Naturally, there will be some formal shots, but make sure he has a pleasant personality and his presence will be as unobtrusive as possible during the reception when he will probably be taking candid shots. Be sure to check with your church or synagogue for rules governing photography and videography during the ceremony, and inform your photographer of these. Get a written contract outlining prices and payment schedules; usually payments are broken up 1/3 at booking, 1/3 a week prior to the wedding, and 1/3 when proofs are delivered. The end result of all your planning and time should be a wedding album and video that will be cherished and looked at for years to come... a timeless collection of memories to share with your children and grandchildren. Approach planning as a fun activity and the end result will likely be most representative of the most memorable day of your life.
