There are some very important points you should consider before you book a caterer. Here are 8 questions you should ask your caterer. If the bridal couple and the caterer discuss these issues and are comfortable with all the answers, the way has been paved for a delightful and joyous wedding reception.
- What is the name of the caterer's insurance company? Ask to see their Health Dept. Permit Certificate. It is not legal to do business without a permit.
- What are the names and phone numbers of at least 3 references? Check them!
- How much food will be provided? What happens to the leftovers?
- How many servers are needed? Will the caterer or restaurant owner be there? How long will the caterer remain at the site?
- Does the caterer have a liquor license? Do you have to provide your own liquor? How will it be served -- beer and wine in pitchers or carafes at the table? By the bottle or the glass? At an open bar? A cash bar? How much does this add to your dinner cost? Who will be responsible for controlling the liquor intake of guests?
- Will there be a contract? How much of a deposit is required?
- Will the caterer or restaurant hold the room, space, and time if the ceremony runs late or you are delayed?
- What is the cancellation policy? Unpleasant to consider, but realistic: What happens if the bride or groom backs out? What if a family death or illness changes the date of the event?
